Qsportsmedicine Brisbane now do PRP injections
(Platelet Rich Plasma)
The platelet rich component of whole blood is separated by centrifuge. It is thought that platelets contain growth factors, which can promote healing. Its main use thus far has been with tendinopathy. At this stage we will be treating tendinopathy only. We are happy to field calls to discuss other possibilities.
Qsports sees this as complementary to a structured and comprehensive rehabilitation program.
Patients will require an initial assessment to decide whether PRP is an appropriate treatment for the patient. Patients need to be off NSAIDS for 10 days.
The process will take 1hour. It involves venesection of 16ml and then 15mins is required to centrifuge the blood. The platelet rich plasma is then injected into the cystic change within the diseased tendon under US guidance.
The expected improvement is generally seen after 4-6 weeks.
